i guess i'm pretty unpopular, always have been, maybe because i live in a van, with three kids two dogs and a dead mouse, the van is haunted by some thing i picked up while surfing one fall day last year i saw this large dark thing swim up to me with a white skull head, so i paddled away from it, but the next night it was in the van with me, i kept jumping awake and grabbing my knife and then it stayed, i hope i can keep writing here with no one else joining me, that would be a hoot as the old ladies say.

When I was a kid I dreamt of living in a fairy tale. So when I grew up I became a gypsy and a witch and am working on growing my hair to be the length of Rapunzel's. Now all I need is a remotely located tower and a minion. Forget the prince.

the title little art refers to all the art i have created over the passed eight years, i had at one time painted 1200 four inch square oil paintings, showed them all together at four differnt locations around the country and sold them all off, mostly. now i paint in my kitchen, couch and van, when everyone is passed out, dead or asleep.

cape may is just north of deleware, and lewes and henelope, where i surf some in the fall, and that is one sweet wave don't let anyone see it, you'll have people parked on the lawns on the porchs everywhere.
i love delaware, no sales tax very tiny property tax, lots of chickens, the ocean is so wonderful, i may retire to delaware, i keep meaning to take that ferry they have, but never do. it crosses the delaware river which is the color of coffee, with a splash of milk, in the mornings when i paddle out for dawn patrol, the dophins swim near me with their little babys, and jump around, while i get stung by jellifish, and the water makes me a little sick from the river run off. have fun, out.

the whole zoo thing has been very exciting, people are really funny about the animals, pets and cats, what the heck, i can't take anything serious, nothing, maybe thats why this broken back hasn't really depressed me much, i get to sit home and paint now more than ever in my life, but what will i do when i have to get back to the real world, oh, if only i could stay home like this, well not like this, maybe more surf time, and swimming, more van living and camping, more chess and tree climbing maybe being able to hold the baby, but crap, we don't make cuddly kids, never have been huggy, they like adventure and the ocean.

three days until my surgery, can't wait, hope it all goes well, i have to be back in surfy shape by july 11 and toby's wedding and i'll be able to squeeze into a bikini.
drove the van to Henry's house, stalled eight times on the way, turned around and went home, then it runs great, so i visit Henry and runs great all the way there and home, twenty blocks total, i love my van, maybe the roof racks tomorrow?
no painting today, tonight perhaps, i have new found love for water colors, who knew they were so fun. maybe i'll never go back to work again, i'll just twitter about myself and all the dull things that constitute my life, uh, i drew a picture-ah- i painted a bear with arrows in it's back, maybe i need to work more.

maybe art really is the size of this laptop- and all it needs is one quick glance-

today a man who bought a large painting of mine 4 x 4 feet square e-mailed me with a photo of the painting still hanging over his bed, fifteen years later- crap that means i'm like a hundred

seashell thank you, at least you care and look at my shop,
i started a spare shop over at artfire, as a back up
fathers day was very mellow, the kids all slept in, while i went for a hike at the beach, watched the waves and played stick with the dogs, so good to be back in the water again after 8 months, toby and i surfed a bit and man it was beautiful, made coffee, played ball, ate campfire hot dogs on sticks, slept in tents, with four people, watched the stars, drank tea and loved every second

all my friends are dead- i am actually working on Etsy from my prison cell
buy some art- now-
that would actually be kinda cute if i painted these little paintings from jail- covered with face tats, scars,in orange jumpsuits with a tiny paint brush

i'm going to the lake for a swim- with the boys- a canoe trip to find some beaver dams, frogs and turtles then the rock climbing wall

can't do that in jail thou

Jonesy

years ago, when i used to roll out to la push alone on Friday nights, back when there would only be one van parked out and down at dirty south, in the cold black rain, i was parked in the bushes, drinking coffee, back when i used to suit up the second i woke up, without looking, that morning in the dark, there's a knock on the van, i open it and it's Jonesy, he smiles when he sees me and sits with me,
he drinks coffee and beer, and tells me~ that he was coming down to hang himself
but he saw my van, and we drink coffee together in the rain
and talk

about spirits and dead friends, and his adventures, and what he was carving~

LAPUSH -- Quileute tribal members on Thursday were mourning the unrelated deaths on Wednesday of Terry Jones and Charlotte Kalama, who both had fundamental links to this West End community.A tribal carver and fisherman, Mr. Jones, 54, died Wednesday night in a fire in his trailer in LaPush, Clallam County Sheriff Bill Benedict confirmed late Thursday. The fire is being investigated by the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms because it occurred on the reservation, but it was not believed to be of suspicious origin, Benedict said. The cause of the fire has not been determined, he said.Mrs. Kalama, 86, died Wednesday of natural causes at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, said Bob Hyde, a funeral director at Coleman Mortuary Inc. in Hoquiam, which is handling funeral arrangements. She was a tribal elder fluent in the Quileute language, tribal spokeswoman Jackie Jacobs said.Mrs. Kalama's mother, the late Lillian Payne Penn Pullen of LaPush, was instrumental in fostering interest in the language.Mrs. Kalama was a lifetime resident of Queets, Hyde said.Fire started at nightThe fire at Mr. Jones' residence, located 30 to 40 feet west of the tribal court building and near the tribal community center, was reported at about 9:40 p.m., LaPush Police Department Officer Brian Demorest said.No other structures were endangered by the blaze, but once it was discovered, "the calls all came in at the same time," Demorest said.Mr. Jones was a well-known and longtime LaPush resident, Demorest said."Everyone knew him, and he knew everyone," Demorest said. There are about 700 tribal members, and about 400 live on the reservation, which is about the size of one square mile, said Anna Parris, tribal housing director.Said tribal center switchboard operation Jackie Smith: "He was our carver."A family member who asked not to be identified said Mr. Jones had watched a healing circle drum group perform earlier Wednesday night."He went around hugging everybody," she said."He just showed love."She said Mr. Jones broke track records as a student at Bellingham High School, where he received his diploma.Mr. Jones had a son, Jesse Schumack, the family member said.

Moss-covered art and super dope style

Neil Van always posts fun and fascinating stuff on his blog, but recently, two images from a couple of his posts have been especially beguiling to me.

How cool is this sculpture in artist Tim Fowler's garden? I would love to have or make something that could stand up to the weather and welcome the encroaching moss as gracefully as this guy does.

And how awesome is Beatrix's style? No, not this Beatrix. This one:

Sites like the Sartorialist would be more compelling to me if they featured more images like this. We've seen enough women snapped while walking down the streets of New York and Milan. Capture some shots of fashionable individuals going camping in the rain, will you?

Anyway, clearly, I love everything about this woman's style (Especially that skirt!). Rock on, Beatrix. And thanks, Neil!
